Horses are fun or all ages, they keep the attention of students, they encourage imagination and they can be related to so many elements of life. Dreaming about horses is so popular that several virtual horse ownership sites are becoming very popular on the web for people of all ages and from all walks of life.

We are currently developing teaching units, appropriate for different age groups. In the meantime, we have some ideas for teachers who want to develop their own units, and we are actively encouraging teachers with ideas on using horses in teaching units to share their ideas with us.

Let each student "Buy" a horse. Many children will have model horses at home which they may want to bring in. Photos or even drawings of horses that each student can color will work well for younger children.

  • Students can use math to figure out how much it costs to feed a horse for the year
  • For older students, basic economics of adding on health care, ferrier costs, etc.
  • Expand into horse shows, prize money, entry fees. o Develop responsibility units, where each student has to keep a chart and remember to "feed" his horse every morning and every evening. Get parents involved by having them sign the chart. If the student is away, he must get someone else to feed his horse.
  • Learn about horse breeds and how they fit in with the history of this country and other countries, what people were doing at different times in history as they are reflected in what they wanted their horses to do.
